Add Subbly as a custom connector
One connector works in Claude on the web, Desktop and mobile, and in Cowork. It needs request headers, a beta Anthropic is rolling out to more accounts.
Open Connectors and add a custom connector
In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds it under Organization settings, Connectors.
Name it Subbly and paste the server URL
Server URLhttps://mcp.subbly.dev/mcpChoose No sign-in, then add your key as a request header
Under Request headers, add X-API-KEY with your key as the value. No Request headers section? Your account doesn't have the beta yet, so use Claude Desktop's config file below.
Request headerX-API-KEY: YOUR_SUBBLY_API_KEY
Or use Claude Desktop's config file
Claude Desktop starts local programs from its config file, so a small bridge (mcp-remote) carries your key to Subbly's server.
Install Node.js 18 or later
The bridge runs with npx, which comes with Node.js (nodejs.org).
Open the config file
In Claude Desktop, open Settings, then Developer, and choose Edit Config. Merge this into mcpServers, keeping any servers already there.
~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
json{ "mcpServers": { "subbly": { "command": "npx", "args": [ "-y", "mcp-remote@0.1.38", "https://mcp.subbly.dev/mcp", "--transport", "http-only", "--header", "X-API-KEY:${SUBBLY_API_KEY}" ], "env": { "SUBBLY_API_KEY": "YOUR_SUBBLY_API_KEY" } } } }Restart Claude Desktop
Quit it fully, then reopen it. Subbly shows in a chat's + menu, under Connectors.
Check it worked. In a new chat, ask Claude to list your published Subbly products. It asks to use the Subbly tool the first time.

Built by Subbly
Describe your store. Your Subbly agent builds it.
Your website, checkout and customer portal are designed and built by your Subbly agent, around your brand. Site editing through MCP is coming soon, so the agent you already use will be able to change your pages too.
See what it buildsNot through MCP yet
Coming soon- Design or edit your website (your Subbly agent does that, and site editing through MCP is coming soon)
- Set up funnels, automations, dunning or the referral program
- Read analytics reports (it can pull the raw orders and subscriptions to work them out)
You set those up in your Subbly admin.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I find my Subbly API key for Claude?
In your Subbly admin, open Settings, then API keys (https://www.subbly.co/admin/settings/api-keys). In the Private API keys card, choose Generate API key and copy it. Only the store owner and admins can create keys, and Subbly asks for two-factor authentication first. Give Claude its own key, so you can delete it without breaking anything else.
Is Claude the same as Claude Code or Cowork?
They're all made by Anthropic. Claude is the chat app on the web, desktop and mobile. Cowork is Claude Desktop's agent for longer tasks on your files, and it uses the same connectors as Claude. Claude Code is the coding agent for your terminal and IDE, with its own MCP setup.
Why can't I see Request headers when I add the connector?
Sending a key in a request header is a beta that Anthropic is rolling out to more accounts. Until your account has it, use Claude Desktop's config file, which works on every plan.
Can Claude make dashboards and documents from my store data?
Yes. Ask Claude to pull your subscriptions, orders or products from Subbly and it can turn them into an artifact: an interactive dashboard, a launch plan or a printable packing sheet. Artifacts update when you ask again, so you can rerun them with fresh data.
Does the Claude Desktop config need the mcp-remote bridge?
Yes. Claude Desktop's config file starts local programs, and Subbly's server is remote, so mcp-remote connects the two and sends your key. We pin the version so it can't change under you.
Is it safe to give Claude my Subbly API key?
The key can read and change everything in your store, so treat it like a password and keep it out of files you share or commit. Claude asks before running a tool unless you allow it, and Subbly's tools tell the agent to confirm with you before archiving or deleting anything. If a key leaks, delete it under Settings, API keys, and it stops working straight away.
Can Claude build my website through Subbly's MCP server?
Not yet. The MCP server runs your store: products, plans, subscriptions, orders, customers and coupons. Your website is built by your Subbly agent: describe it in Subbly and it designs and builds the store, checkout included. Site editing through MCP is coming soon, so Claude will be able to change your pages too.
Which Subbly plans work with Claude?
Every plan includes the MCP server, with usage limits that depend on your plan.
